The Environment Agency (EA) has released a new report on dealing with contaminated land.
‘Dealing with contaminated land’ is the result of a survey commissioned by Defra in 2014, which investigated the implementation of Part 2A of the 1990 Environment Protection Act. With a focus on identifying and remediating contaminated land sites, the report documents the progress made by 197 of 326 local councils (60%) in applying the regulations.

With the aim of sharing UK developments and best practice, Ground-Gas Solutions’ (GGS) Managing Director, Simon Talbot, was recently invited by the Australasian Land and Groundwater Association (ALGA) to run a series of seminars and technical workshops on ground-gas continuous monitoring, risk assessment and protection in Australia and New Zealand. Run in collaboration with Peter Atchison of PAGeotechnical Ltd (PAG), the training courses took place in Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland.

The course titled ‘Landfill and Ground-Gas – Current Best Practice in Monitoring, Risk Assessment and Remediation’ is taking place in Melbourne and Sydney this week.

With the ACUMEN project now in its final month, the Environment Agency and CIWM will be hosting a webinar. The webinar will focus on some of the headline facts and figures from our practical field scale demonstrations of ways to manage the gas at closed landfill sites. Additionally, the webinar will be an opportunity for us to provide an overview of the tools and reports that the ACUMEN Project Team have produced to help people tasked with managing closed landfills. Ground Gas Solutions Limited (GGS) are delighted to be involved in a new course on the environmental monitoring of water and methane for the onshore oil and gas industry. This new course is delivered by Envireau Knowledge in partnership with Envireau Water, Peter Dumble Hydrogeology, GeoWater, In-Situ and GGS and will take place on the 25th August 2015 at the University of Birmingham.
