ACUMEN project update – Assessing the methane potential of closed landfills

The goal of the ACUMEN project is to demonstrate approaches to reducing methane emissons from closed landfills. Several closed landfill sites have now been identified with the aim to demonstrate techniques in which to assess, capture and ultilise methane.

Monitoring work is scheduled to begin next week with GGS undertaking site walkover and methane flux surveys to provide an overview of surface emissions at each selected site. For further information please see here. Alternatively, for more background information on the ACUMEN project the website is www.environment-agency.gov.uk/acumen
